Maurice Sterne
Green Apples
1924
Oil on canvas

Artist Statement: My art draws on inspiration from artists of the past. For sculpture, I look to ancient Greek and Roman forms. For painting, I often look to Paul Cezanne. For Green Apples, I was inspired by Cezanne’s manipulation of perspective and depth so I moved my still life to the floor. The apples are strewn about on a piece of white cloth that looks either to be flat on the ground or resting against something beneath it.

Artist bio: I am a painter and sculptor. I was born in Latvia and moved to New York City when I was a young boy. I’ve also  spent a lot of time traveling to Italy and Bali.
